The Weill Cornell Medicine Pediatric Brain & Spine Center is now a full member of the Children's Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC), an elite group dedicated to collaborating on research into pediatric brain tumors. Member institutions commit to collecting high-quality brain tumor specimens and having those tumors sequenced; they then develop cell lines and tumor models from the samples and share their results with other CBTTC members with a goal of accelerating the science around pediatric brain tumors.
The CBTTC is hosted at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and now includes eight full members (in addition to CHOP and Weill Cornell the members are Seattle Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the Benioff Children’s Hospital at UCSF, the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University, and the Children’s National Health System) and two satellite facilities (Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence, Italy, and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey at Rutgers).
Weill Cornell’s admission into this consortium is a major step forward for the Children’s Brain Tumor Project, which now has world-class partner institutions with which to share data and findings, and which share our passion for finding answers to rare and inoperable brain tumors of childhood and adolescence.
