Cushing’s disease may be treated with hormone-suppressing drugs or with radiation to shrink a pituitary tumor, but it is most often treated surgically, by neurosurgeons and otolaryngological (ENT) surgeons. Removing the pituitary tumor is often a cure for Cushing’s disease, although it may take some time for the pituitary gland to resume normal functioning — supplemental cortisol may be given during the recovery period.
