Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield has accepted an invitation to become a standing member of the Weill Cornell Medicine Englander Institute for Precision Medicine. Dr. Greenfield’s formal affiliation with the Institute is in recognition of his work in genomic sequencing of pediatric brain tumors and his ongoing research collaboration with the Institute. Dr. Greenfield joins an organization that links cutting-edge research and sequencing to the individual patient, aiming to revolutionize how patients are treated for cancer and other diseases.
Dr. Greenfield is a pediatric neurosurgeon and co-director of the Weill Cornell Medicine Children’s Brain Tumor Project, which is dedicated to finding new treatment options for rare and inoperable brain tumors that strike children and adolescents. He directs multiple research projects pertaining to brain tumor microenvironment, tumor immunology, and precision medicine.
The Englander Institute for Precision Medicine was founded in 2015 with the mission of uncovering the molecular roots of disease using genomic sequencing, informatics, and other technologies. Physicians use these tools to develop an approach for disease treatment that takes into account individuals’ variability in genes, lifestyle, and environment. As members of the Institute, physician-scientists such as Dr. Greenfield have access to advanced gene-sequencing technologies to identify genetic alterations that are at the root of specific illnesses.
