Dr. Mark Souweidane, Vice Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery, has been named chair of the editorial board for the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics. Dr. Souweidane, who has served on the journal’s editorial board since 2008, assumed the new role at the 2015 meeting of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) in Washington, DC, earlier this month.
The Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics was founded in 2004 as a supplement to the Journal of Neurosurgery and became a monthly publication of its own in 2005, along with JNS: Spine. The three journals, which are part of AANS, are the most respected journals in neurosurgery today.
Dr. Souweidane is an internationally renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and researcher who has lectured and published widely on topics including pediatric brain tumors, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and craniofacial disorders. He co-directs the Weill Cornell Children’s Brain Tumor Project, where is he currently the principal investigator on a Phase I trial testing the safety of using convection-enhanced delivery (CED, also called interstitial infusion) for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), an always-fatal brain tumor that usually strikes children under age 10.
