Whitney Parker, MD, PhD, has been awarded a one-year Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) Research Fellowship for a project titled “The Role of Novel NMDA Receptor Variants in Human Brain Development and Epilepsy.” Dr. Parker is in her fourth year of neurosurgical residency at Weill Cornell Medicine and will conduct her research under the supervision of Dr. M. Elizabeth Ross, the Nathan E. Cumming Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience and Chair of the Neuroscience Graduate Program at Weill Cornell Medicine Feil Family Brain & Mind Research Institute.
Dr. Parker contributes to a distinguished list of residents from Weill Cornell Medicine who have been awarded NREF research grants and fellowships. Dr. Heather McCrea was awarded a research grant in 2012, and was followed by Dr. Nelson Moussazadeh and Dr. Peter Morgenstern’s selections as NREF fellows for 2014-2016 & 2015-16, respectively.
NREF is a not-for-profit organization created by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons to support educational and research efforts. NREF Research Fellowships are one-year grants of up to $40,000 for residents in training for academic careers as neurosurgical physician-scientists.
