Cristian Rivera Foundation Pledges $360,000 to Support DIPG Research at Star-Studded Event

The Cristian Rivera Foundation (CRF) reaffirmed its dedication to advancing research and supporting families affected by Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer, with a generous $360,000 donation to Dr. Mark Souweidane’s research efforts. The check presentation, made by CRF Board Member, actor, and comedian Kenan Thompson, took place at a special event held at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

This contribution is part of CRF’s ongoing commitment to funding transformative research and providing critical support to families impacted by DIPG. In 2024, the foundation allocated over $500,000 to medical partners and families, bringing its total contributions to more than $3.5 million since its inception.

“In memory of my son, Cristian, I’m proud to say that we are making remarkable progress in the fight against DIPG,” said John Gungie Rivera, Founder and President of the Cristian Rivera Foundation. “This donation represents the largest single gift we’ve made to Dr. Souweidane’s groundbreaking research, and it reflects the strength of our donor community and our unwavering support for his vital work.”

Dr. Mark Souweidane, a leader in pediatric neurosurgery and DIPG research, expressed deep appreciation for the funding, which will further accelerate critical studies aimed at improving outcomes for children diagnosed with this devastating illness.

The event underscored the power of community collaboration in the pursuit of a cure for DIPG and highlighted the foundation’s continued commitment to driving progress and providing essential resources to families facing the challenges of pediatric cancer.
