Chief Residents David Rubin, M.D., and Caitlin Hoffman, M.D., have completed their seven-year training program at Weill Cornell and are departing for the next stages of their careers. Dr. Rubin will enter a private practice in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dr. Hoffman will begin a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto.
Justin Schwarz, M.D., and Whitney Parker, M.D./Ph.D., will join the Department of Neurosurgery in July as first-year residents. Dr. Schwarz is a 2014 graduate of Weill Cornell Medical College; he received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology from Dartmouth College. He spent a year between his third and fourth years of medical school working on basic science research in Dr. Michael Kaplitt’s laboratory. For the past 18 months Dr. Schwarz has been the Clinical Director of the Weill Cornell Community Clinic, which provides free services to uninsured patients in New York.
Dr. Parker is a 2014 graduate of the MD/PhD program at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also earned an undergraduate degree in the Biological Basis of Behavior. She has won multiple awards, including an AANS NREF Medical Student Summer Research Fellowship and an NREF Medical Student Research Best Submission Award. She has conducted research into polyhydramnios megalencephaly and symptomatic epilepsy (PMSE; also known as “Pretzel Syndrome”).
