Legal Scholar to Deliver Michael L. J. Apuzzo Lecture at CNS 2016

Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University and primary consultant to the Supreme Court in constitutional issues, has been selected to deliver this year’s Michael L. J. Apuzzo Lecture on Creativity and Innovation at the annual meeting of the Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons in San Diego, California. Amar will speak on the topic of "Creativity and Innovation Associated with the Noble Experiment of Democracy" on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at 5:45 p.m.

Amar is a widely respected legal scholar and author, specializing in constitutional issues. His books include The Constitution and Criminal Procedure: First Principles (Yale Univ. Press, 1997), The Bill of Rights: Creation and Reconstruction (Yale Univ. Press, 1998), America’s Constitution: A Biography (Random House, 2005), America’s Unwritten Constitution: The Precedents and Principles We Live By (Basic Books, 2012), and The Law of the Land: A Grand Tour of our Constitutional Republic (Basic Books, 2015). The Constitution Today: Timeless Lessons for the Issues of Our Era, will be published this month.

The Michael L. J. Apuzzo Lecture on Creativity and Innovation was established in perpetuity by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in 2006. Since then it has been delivered by such individuals as George Lucas, Phillip Glass, Itzak Perlman, Michael Tilson Thomas, Herbie Hancock, and Noble Laureate economist Muhammad Yunus. Dr. Apuzzo joined the faculty of the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center in July of this year.
