The Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital have created a new Brain Metastases Clinic that provides comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with metastatic brain tumors and leptomeningeal disease. The clinic offers not only surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy for brain and spine metastases, but also provides access to holistic services that help treat the neurologic consequences of their disease.
The multi-disciplinary team offers integrated care that helps promote a patient’s physical, psychological, and social well-being. The clinic includes nutritional counseling, clinical psychology services, acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, pain management, and meditation training. Group seminars for patients and caregivers offer support and assistance with the emotional, logistical, and financial aspects of a metastatic cancer diagnosis.
Patients, caregivers, and referring doctors can call a unified phone number (646-NYP-METS, or 646-697-6387) to initiate the process. A Brain Mets Program Coordinator will then coordinate appointments with multiple specialists to eliminate a major source of stress for patients and families.
The new program is directed by neurosurgeon Rohan Ramakrishna, MD, and includes specialists from a wide range of disciplines that may be required to provide complete care for patients and families.
