In honor of National Physician Assistant Week (October 6-12, 2019), NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has named Stephanie Sharkey, PA-C, as the Physician Assistant of the Year for the Weill Cornell Medicine campus. The awards, presented annually by the Department of Physician Assistant Services, honor PAs from all NYP locations. Awards are given to the PA Rookie of the Year, the PA of the Year, and the Physician Partner of the Year.
Stephanie, who takes care of Neurological Surgery and Neurology inpatients, discovered her passion for Neuroscience during her undergraduate work at St. John’s where she spent time working with a Neurologist. During her clinical rotations Stephanie gained clinical experience working with patients with various neurological conditions. Six years ago Stephanie was recruited to work at New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell for the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery. Stephanie has grown into a respected leader and mentor and provides excellent care to patients. Stephanie's colleagues describe her as kind, approachable, and caring. She wears many hats in her job and, best of all, exemplifies what it means to puts patients and her team first.
Stephanie is one of more than 600 Physician Assistants at the many NewYork-Presbyterian locations, representing one of the fastest growing professions in the country. The other PA honorees at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and the NYP David H. Koch Center were:
