The Alvina and Willis Murphy Assistant Professorship of Neurological Surgery has been awarded to Dr. Rohan Ramakrishna, effective August 1, 2016. The endowed professorship, created to support a promising neurosurgeon early in his or her career, was established in 2005 through a generous bequest from the estate of Alvina Murphy.
Dr. Ramakrishna received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his neurosurgery residency and served as chief resident at the University of Washington. He also completed a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Ramakrishna specializes in the treatment of brain tumors and other central nervous system tumors, using the most advanced technology available. These technologies include advanced laser surgery, minimally invasive subcortical and interventricular surgery, brain mapping, and advanced open/endoscopic skull base techniques.
