On Wednesday, October 17, Dr. Michael Kaplitt delivered the 18th Annual John Doppman Memorial Lecture for Imaging Sciences at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Kaplitt spoke on "Focused Ultrasound as a Non-Invasive Mechanism to Improve Dysfunctional Brain Circuits in Neurological Disease."
The lecture is named for John Leo Doppman, MD, the longtime chairman of the Diagnostic Radiology Department at the NIH Clinical Center. Dr. Doppman was a pioneer in advanced imaging and was an early advocate of sonography, CT, and MRI. Dr. Kaplitt is a world-renowned expert in movement disorders and in the past two years has become one of the country's leading advocates for high-intensity focused ultrasound for the treatment of essential tremor.
