The Neurosurgery Outstanding Service Award spotlights members of the department who exemplify the department's core values. The second-quarter winners of 2023 are both senior patient coordinators: Darcelle Benjamin-Smith, with an honorable mention for Michelle Navarro.
Darcelle was described by one nominator as "a great employee! She is more than accommodating to the patients. She works extremely hard and never becomes discouraged when work gets tough. She is so passionate about her job and describes to me every day how much she loves what she does.” Another noted that Darcelle “is a valued member of our team who takes great pride in her work and consistently strives to ensure that patients receive excellent care. We've received feedback from her patients that she responds in a timely manner and is truly an asset to our department.”
One colleague said that Michelle Navarro “is a great example of what an employee should be. She goes above and beyond for her patients; she comes in early and stays late, and never complains. She has a passion for her work, she is always there if you need help in the department. Her work ethic is exemplary and I believe she deserves this award.” Another said of Michelle that “she is always willing to help anyone and everyone. Her colleagues, management, doctors, and even helping to train new employees. You can always count on her to be there for you. She treats every patient as if they were her own family and always goes above and beyond to get them through the door so they can be taken care of by our amazing doctors.”
