A contingent of 30 students from Cornell University’s premedical engineering society (“eMed”) made the trip from Weill Hall, on the main campus in Ithaca, to Weill Cornell Medical College in New York to participate in the 8th Annual Weill-to-Weill Engineering in Medicine Conference. The 2 day conference, spearheaded by neurosurgeon Dr. Susan Pannullo and student Katy Lee, focused on the application of engineering solutions to medical challenges and potential career pathways from engineering to medicine.
The undergraduate and graduate students were treated to an all-star lineup, including medical college leadership and a slate of Weill Cornell Medicine researchers and clinical faculty. Dr. Augustine Choi, Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine, described his personal journey into medicine. Dr. Charles Bardes, Associate Dean for Admissions of Weill Cornell Medical College, offered advice about applying into medical school, and Dr. Philip Stieg, Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery, shared his insights on the qualities of successful residents and faculty in neurosurgery.
The 2-day conference was sponsored by the Department of Neurological Surgery of Weill Cornell Medical College, the Department of Biomedical Engineering of Cornell University, the Bartels Family of Cornell University, the College of Engineering of Cornell University, and the Student Assembly Finance Commission of Cornell University. This event mirrors and is further evidence of inter-campus collaboration between the engineering programs in Ithaca and the neurological surgery in New York City.
