Dr. Zhiping Zhou obtained a medical degree from Shanghai and was a neurologist in China. Upon receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he joined Dr. Souweidane’s laboratory for neurosurgical research. His research interests focus on experimental therapies for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare but deadly brain tumor in children. He also works on convection-enhanced delivery (CED), a local drug delivery method to bypass the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The blood-brain barrier is believed to be the reason drugs cannot enter a brain tumor, making chemotherapy ineffective in treating DIPG. CED is a powerful platform on which new therapies for DIPG can be developed.
