Jing Li is a visiting graduate assistant in Dr. Schwartz’s epilepsy laboratory. She earned her MD degree from Jilin University in China and is currently working on an advanced degree at Jilin University. In her current work in Dr. Schwartz’s lab, Jing Li is investigating the neurovascular coupling mechanism during acute interracial events in awake and anesthetized mice. Neurovascular coupling based technologies (e.g. intrinsic optical imaging, fMRI and SPECT) are often used to estimate the spatial distribution of epileptic activity in clinical practice. However, the mechanisms of neurovascular coupling during pathological circumstances such epilepsy are largely unknown. Jing Li’s research employs a number of cutting edge methods such as intrinsic optical imaging, wide-field calcium imaging, and transgenic animal models. Jing Li’s work may shed light on the interpretation of functional imaging data in clinical practice.
