A record 25 faculty members from Weill Cornell Medicine Neurological Surgery have been named to the 2024 list of New York SuperDoctors. The list of outstanding physicians, published as a supplement to The New York Times Magazine on May 5, 2024, was assembled based on peer nomination, credentials, and achievement; it is an elite roster of physicians deemed the very best in their fields, including not just neurological surgery but also neuroradiology, neuro-endocrinology, and orthopedics, who are all members of our department.
We are honored to say that we have more neurosurgeons on this year's list than any other hospital in the New York metropolitan area, by far. We are also cementing our leadership for the future, with more Rising Stars than anyone else — meaning that for decades to come, Weill Cornell Medicine neurosurgeons will top the list of SuperDoctors in the entire metropolitan area.
We are especially proud to stand with our colleagues at Columbia at the top of the list. Together, the neurosurgeons of NewYork-Presbyterian (Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia, with expert neurosurgeons available in our offices and hospitals all around the New York metropolitan area) make up more than half of the list. For patients in search of expert neurosurgical care, our combined neurosurgery service offers more experts t han any other institution in the area.
In addition to professor and chairman Philip E. Stieg, PhD, MD, this year’s list includes all four vice chairs — Dr. Mark Souweidane, Dr. Michael Kaplitt, Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield, and Dr. Theodore Schwartz — as well as many of our other experts in brain, spine, and pediatric neurosurgery, including those in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
