Dr. Michael Apuzzo has been presented with the Bahcesehir University Medal of Science, which honors contributions to the field of medicine. Prof. Türker Kılıç, Dean of the BAU School of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, presented Dr. Apuzzo with the medal in a ceremony in Istanbul attended by medical students and young neurosurgeons.
The Medal of Science has previously awarded to Dr. Joseph Martin, Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology at Harvard and former Dean of the Harvard Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos of Geneva University; Dr. M. Necmettin Pamir of Acıbadem University; Dr. James Rutka of Toronto University; and Dr. Theo Seiler of the University of Zurich.
The BAU Medical School has also honored Dr. Apuzzo by naming the incoming class of medical students after him. In keeping with the school’s tradition of naming each class after a prominent physician, the Class of 2025 will be known as the Apuzzo Class. Previous classes have been named for Dr. Charles Stiles, Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School and Co-Chair of Cancer Biology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and for Dr. Joseph Martin, Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology at Harvard and former Dean of the Harvard Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Apuzzo will travel to Istanbul in September 2019 to welcome the incoming Apuzzo Class.
