Being in the hospital is tough on any kid, any time – but being there over the holidays can be especially difficult. Two of the dedicated elves of the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center -- Daysi Fernandez and Jessica Lee – organized a toy drive to make the holiday week a tiny bit cheerier for our youngest patients. Working with the Child Life team at NewYork-Presbyterian, headed by Blakely Rice and Shannon Peer, Daysi and Jessica collected dozens of gifts for pediatric neurosurgery patients as well as other kids spending time in the hospital during this holiday week.
This week, the team delivered gifts to patients from age 15 months to 19 years, with conditions from craniofacial anomalies to brain tumors. (A few extras went into gift bags to be delivered by Santa himself on Christmas Day.) Many thanks to Daysi and Jessica and to the Child Life team, and happy holidays to all!
