In September 2018 the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center embarked on an inaugural mission to Senegal, where a three-neurosurgeon team trained local surgeons how to perform lifesaving neurosurgical procedures.
The mission, led by Dr. Babacar Cisse (a native of Sengal), also included chairman and neurosurgeon-in-chief Dr. Philip E. Stieg and pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield. Over the course of the week, in classroom settings as well as in the OR for hands-on training, our neurosurgeons provided critical instruction in surgical procedures for a wide range of brain and spine disorders.
