On November 17, 2012, neurosurgeon Theodore Schwartz and radiation oncologist Gabriella Wernicke presented clinical findings on their study of brain cancer treatment using Cesium-131 radiation seeds. The presentation was made at the annual Scientific Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) in Washington, DC. Their study compares the relative effectiveness of Cesium-131 versus other common therapies in treating newly diagnosed metastatic brain tumors. The results show that internal radiation therapy using Cesium-131 is as effective as other treatments, but at lower cost.
