Dr. Philip E. Stieg, chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, has published a review of a new book about the concussion controversy in professional football, entitled League of Denial: The NFL, Concussions, and the Battle for Truth. The review, published by the Dana Foundation, evaluates the book's style, content, and accuracy.
According to the Dana Foundation:
In his review of League of Denial by Mark Fainaru-Wada and Steve Fainaru, Stieg finds the sports-concussion crisis to be a difficult subject. Beyond the heart-wrenching stories of the players that the authors use to illustrate the impact of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), as well as the moral and legal pressure and competition to advance the science, one undeniable fact remains: We still have much to learn about CTE and its impact on the future of professional football.
