Dr. Richard Fraser Dies at 79

We were saddened to learn of the passing of retired neurosurgeon Dr. Richard Fraser, 79, on September 14. He was a warm and compassionate physician and colleague, and he will be missed.

Dr. Fraser was a board-certified neurosurgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia, then completed his residency at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He became an attending neurosurgeon at what was then New York Hospital, and rose through the ranks to Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery within the Department of Surgery here at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was the last division chief before Neurological Surgery became an independent department in 2000.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 23, at 11:00am at Christ's Church, Rye. Our deepest condolences to Dr. Fraser’s family.
