Third-year neurosurgery resident Benjamin Rapoport, MD, PhD, was selected as the Resident of the Month and honored for exemplifying both the hospital motto, “We Put Patients First,” and the NewYork-Presbyterian Values: Respect, Teamwork, Excellence, Empathy, Innovation, and Responsibility.
Dr. Rapoport was nominated for the award by the staff of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, including Dr. Sondra Maureen Nemetski; Dr. Doreen Hsing; Erin Kelly, PA; Dr. Kalgi Modi; and Dr. Jenna Piccininni. The nomination lauded Dr. Rapoport for his calm demeanor and excellent bedside manner, among other distinctions. “He takes the time to explain his reasoning and the intricacies of complex neurosurgical evaluations and pathologies to both his colleagues and to his patients and their families,” the staff wrote. “His clinical evaluations and plans are always thorough and well thought-out. His procedural skills are also excellent, and he reviews every step with both the staff and the patients to ensure that things run smoothly and to alleviate his patients’ fears.”
In what is perhaps the best compliment any health care professional can pay another, the nomination letter concludes with: “Some of us are parents as well, and if we had to choose a neurosurgeon to care for our own children, Dr. Rapoport would be at the top of our list.”
The entire department of neurological surgery extends congratulations to Dr. Rapoport on this well-deserved reward.
