The Department of Neurological Surgery is proud to celebrate Dr. Marcus Aspegren, who has been named the 2025 Emergency Department Consultant of the Year by the Weill Cornell Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
Each year, this prestigious award recognizes one consulting physician who exemplifies outstanding collaboration, clinical excellence, and dedication to patient-centered care. Voted on by emergency medicine residents across both the Cornell and Columbia campuses, the honor reflects deep appreciation for the unique challenges and partnerships required in delivering emergent care.
Dr. Aspegren was selected for his exceptional teamwork and unwavering support of the Emergency Department, particularly in the care of neurosurgical patients facing critical health challenges.
“It has been a sincere pleasure working together with the emergency team this past year to take care of hundreds of neurosurgical patients, often seeing them through some of their most difficult moments,” Dr. Aspegren said. “I was truly moved and honored to be recognized by this phenomenal team.”
Jeffrey P. Greenfield, MD, PhD
Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield, Professor and Director of the Neurosurgical Residency Program, reflected on the significance of the honor:
“Marcus demonstrates that precision and efficiency don't need to come at the expense of compassion and courtesy. We are proud that Marcus so perfectly represented the spirit of our department and training program—and that this has been duly recognized by our amazing colleagues in the ED.”
The award underscores the vital role consultants play in emergency care and the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in providing the highest quality of service to patients and their families.
Congratulations to Dr. Aspegren on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your continued commitment to excellence.
