Dr. Kaplitt Named David and Ursel Barnes Professor in Minimally Invasive Surgery

The Department of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael G. Kaplitt as the David and Ursel Barnes Professor in Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Dr. Michael Kaplitt is the Director of the Movement Disorders Program and a leader in functional neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. He has dedicated his career to advancing minimally invasive treatments for neurological disease. His pioneering research in gene therapy, neuromodulation, and translational neuroscience has helped expand the boundaries of what is possible in neurosurgical care.

He holds additional faculty appointments in neurology, otolaryngology, and neuroscience, and is known for his collaborative approach to care, commitment to mentorship, and deep engagement in research that improves patients’ lives.

This endowed professorship, established through the generosity of David and Ursel Barnes, recognizes Dr. Kaplitt’s extraordinary contributions and supports the department’s continued leadership in innovative, patient-centered care.
