Dr. Roger Härtl, chief of spinal surgery at the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, has been named to the International Board of Directors of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS). Dr. Härtl was named Centers of Excellence Chair at the SMISS Global Forum 2014, held September 19 through 21 in Miami.
SMISS is an international organization of surgeons who specialize in minimally invasive spine surgery. The organization focuses on educating members in the rapidly changing field of minimal-access spine surgery, measuring patient outcomes, and identifying Centers of Excellence. As Centers of Excellence chair, Dr. Härtl will lead the SMISS effort to evaluate and endorse those institutions that best follow the principles of minimally invasive spine surgery and achieve superior patient outcomes.
