The neurosurgery service at Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Irving Medical Center at NewYork-Presbyterian has been ranked #1 in the world by Newsweek magazine. In a survey conducted over the summer of 2021, Newsweek and Statista asked experts worldwide to recommend and rank hospitals in their own area of expertise as well as in an optional secondary area. More than 40,000 medical experts were asked to choose the top hospitals in the world for 10 specialties, and the combined neurosurgery service at Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University emerged at the very top of the global list.
“I am truly humbled to have this department recognized as the top neurological surgery service in the world, and grateful to our patients for entrusting us with their care,” said Dr. Philip E. Stieg, chairman of the department of neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and neurosurgeon-in-chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. “The neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuro-endocrinologists, and neuropsychologists on this faculty are the best of the best, supported by a world-class team of physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners. It truly takes a village – we have the best of every type of health care professional, from technicians to pharmacists to bedside nurses, anesthesiologists to radiologists. Together we provide the most advanced, compassionate, effective care for our patients, and it’s an honor to be recognized by other neurosurgeons as the top in the world.”
“This is a wonderful recognition of the world-class patient care we provide,” said Dr. E. Sander Connolly, chairman of the department of neurosurgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and neurosurgeon-in-chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. “We have access to top experts in every discipline needed to support our neurosurgery patients, allowing us to provide comprehensive care on a highly individual basis. This is an honor to our department as well as to our partners across town at Weill Cornell Medicine.”
The top ranking for the neurosurgical service at Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Irving Medical Center corroborates what the annual US News survey and other lists of Top Doctors, SuperDoctors, and other “best neurosurgeons” lists nationwide have long said: We are simply the best.
